In our continuing “2012 in Review” series, we asked some of the major players in NYC dance music to reminisce about the year that was, and also to share their wishes for 2013. (Ed. Note: Yes, we know we are a tad late with some of these, but since we figure you can probably still remember a few months ago, you’ll likely enjoy reminiscing about the year that was along with some of your favorite musicmakers.)

This installation features disco shaman Gavin Russom of The Crystal Ark, also known for his work with LCD Soundsystem, Black Meteoric Star, and Delia Gonzalez. Hot on the heels of last fall’s self-titled album release, The Crystal Ark are touring up a storm (next NYC stop: Roseland Ballroom on April 9 with Hot Chip and Tanlines) and are about to release a remix-heavy EP for the single “Rain.”

In the midst of all this, Russom continues creating in the name of music and art and positive vibes: Starting today/tomorrow (depending on when you read this), his new RUN ONN party kicks off at The DL in the L.E.S. The new weekly has all the makings of a dream Thursday on the dancefloor: tropical rooftop, open bar, no cover, and a weekly lineup of NYC’s best house/disco DJs carefully curated by Russom himself. The inaugural edition features Nancy Whang (LCD Soundsystem), Nomi Ruiz (Jessica 6), and Druzzi (The Rapture)… get details here! (And, full disclosure, GlitterballNYC is proudly co-hosting! We hope to see you there!)

Oh, and check out this clip from last year’s CMJ Fader Fort at Converse Rubber Tracks to see The Crystal Ark Party Machine (the enchanting, scaled-down, vibrant, feel-good live PA version of the band that puts most other bands’ live sets to shame) in action — fingers crossed they’ll be back doing it again soon!
