Connie, aka Constar, has been a major contributor to New York City’s underground electronic scene for nearly a decade. With a deep fluid mix of forward thinking 4/4 styles and a defined rhythmic sensibility that flows from her alter ego as a thumping rock drummer, Connie is a steady crowd favorite and an accomplished pro who always brings the goods. Whether it is as resident DJ for ReSolute, one of NYC’s hottest itinerant underground parties, or on the road touring from Brazil to Spain to Dubai, Connie’s innate aptitude and vigorous devotion to her craft have earned her turns alongside a litany of techno’s best, whom she frequently, but humbly outshines. Connie has been progressively making a name for herself in the techno world. Some of the highlights have been: winning first place in the Village Voice ‘Spinoff Contest’, which landed her a spot at Ultrafest, two appearances at WMC’s infamous Made Events’ Sunday School For Degenerates, an appearance at Canada’s biggest techno party Piknic Electronik, Time Warp in NYC, and most recently Lighthouse Festival in Croatia. Determinedly, Connie uses her own success to inspire other women to enter the male-dominated world of DJing. To date she has privately trained 15 students and in partnership with Halcyon Record Store, ran ‘Ladies Night,’ a weekly showcase for up-and-coming female DJ talent. In 2009, Connie’s first productions, under the name ‘Constar,’ debuted on the Boston-based Airdrop imprint.
Currently, Connie is back in the studio focusing on production.
Sassy selections, with throbbing, lush bass and dazzling chords, Remove Hyphen crafts sets that are thoughtful and complex–creating a cathartic dance floor rich with sub-aquatic beats.
Remove Hyphen bought her first plane ticket to India. There she studied Tabla, traditional Indian drums, at a school in the southern jungles of Kerela. This initial adventure began a life long pursuit of creative self-determination that would lead to musical experiments in China with the Pipa, an ancient lute, to Spain where she sought a guitar making family of gypsies to craft a Flamenco guitar, and to Jamaica where her knowledge of stringed instruments led to jamming out Reggae skanks with Rastas on the beaches of Negril.
Remove Hyphen’s understanding of sound has influenced her productions and track selections to reflect broad musical experiences. Dubby techno atmospheres alongside gorgeous chords combine to create the raw and the beautiful, satisfying the mind and the body. Her taste has led to a residency with Devotion and invitations to share music at a wide variety of events appealing to different crowds. This open spirit is reflected in her productions, which span genres: deep acid, industrial, electronica grooves to cocoon room techno; Remove Hyphen seeks to dismiss the things that separate people, using dance music as a tool for freedom.
After almost two decades behind the decks, the Australian born, Brooklyn-based selector Joe Foxton has a broad range from dubby hypnotic techno to melodic deep house. Combining the most innovative music of the moment with battle-tested classics, Joe Foxton has a finely-honed skill for creating dancefloor hypnotism. Joe’s style emits class and nuance, using organic percussion, unique instrumentation, and sophisticated arrangements. Joe has shared the decks with world class talent such as Ripperton, Ida Engberg, The Drifter, Eagles & Butterflies, Pezzner, Thugfucker, and Sammy Dee.
