NYC’s big electronic music events have left a lot to be desired as of late: Monster festivals like Electric Zoo and Electric Daisy Carnival are catering primarily to the mainstream “EDM” crowd, brands like HARD have been skipping our fine city, and natural disaster forced the cancellation last week of the very promising local stop on the Sonar tour. But don’t lose faith: Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival (BEMF) is here to save the day (well, technically, weekend)!
For the fifth year running, BEMF — a MeanRed Productions thang — has been causing mass-raging in Williamsburg with stellar lineups that span electronic genres and mix up the names you’ve loved for years with those up-and-comers who are most worth some time with your ears (and the rest of your dancing body). Kicking off tonight, this year’s BEMF raises the bar even higher with a mix of live and DJ sets from acts like Nicolas Jaar, Metro Area, Drop the Lime, Jackmaster, The Rapture DJs (Vito & Druzzi), Braille, Gold Panda, and dozens more.
From 8 p.m. until 4 a.m. tonight and tomorrow (Friday, November 9, and Saturday, November 10), the very finest in dance music will hit the following Williamsburg venues (which are most conveniently located in very close proximity to each other): Public Assembly (70 N. 6th), Cameo Gallery (93 N. 6th), Glasslands Gallery (289 Kent), 285KENT (285 Kent), Music Hall of Williamsburg (66 N. 6th), and Brooklyn Bowl (61 Wythe). And, fortunately for music lovers, the L is back and running just in the nick of time!
With so many names on the bill, decisions are tough. We figured we’d offer you a shortlist of our Top 5 most anticipated (with some videos to check out) to give you a starting point (see the full schedules for November 9 and November 10 to plan your own itinerary).
