Happy 2018! We want to say things can only get better after ’17, but let’s not jinx it… One thing is certain: We’ve got even more solid (dare we say excellent) venues in NYC than perhaps ever before, so you’ll never lack for dancefloors on which to lose yourself. Special shout out to those of you who danced your way into the new year with us at Secret Project Robot, as well as to the stellar talent on the decks (Joakim, Sharif Laffrey, Andi, Chase Smith, and our resident Facets) and the super hard-working staff of SPR!

And now, back to business: Check out our top NYC dancefloor picks for this weekend below (as usual, the most essential events are marked by **). Catch you under the discoball (although it might need to wait until this city thaws out a bit)…

Best thing that happened in 2017:
A pedophile catholic fundamentalist didn’t win a seat at the senate — pretty low expectation levels this year

Worst thing that happened in 2017:

The track I played out the most this year:
So I looked at my rekordbox history and it looks like it may be Nicola Cruz: “Espiritu De Proteccion”

My favorite new artist this year was:
Machine Woman

My favorite NYC place or party to play this year was:
Sorry NYC, but I’m having a hard time answering this one — haven’t played at a venue that really stood out.. I had a blast playing very slow for two hours at Bossa Nova Civic Club recently for the Let’s Play House party though… Maybe it’s gonna be Secret Robot Project?

My favorite NYC-based label was:
Palto Flats

My favorite NYC-based radio station was:
The Lot Radio

My vote for NYC’s hottest DJ this year:
I’m pretty cute, don’t you think? Seriously, I haven’t had the occasion to hear any new NYC DJ this year, so I can’t answer that question

Record I’m most likely to drop on NYE:
Frank Sinatra: “It Was a Very Good Year”

In 2018, I’m most looking forward to:
U.S. mid-term elections (although I can’t vote here) and releasing exciting projects I’ve been working on

My New Year’s resolution is:
Go Paleo… or ketogenic… or maybe Atkins… it’s so hard to choose

Trends I predict will be big in ’18:
Non-offensive food diets and Nu-Trance

We’re in the home stretch of 2017 at last… It’s a hectic time of year (hence us being M.I.A. last week), but hope everyone’s holiday season is filled with the best things, including the best people and, of course, the best music. If you’re staying in town this weekend, there’s still lots of dancefloor action to keep you warm (all our top picks are below).

It’s also time to firm up your NYE plans: Our guide to NYE in NYC will be out shortly, but we hope to see you at Secret Project Robot on the 31st for our fifth annual party! We’re super pumped for music by French legend Joakim, Detroit master Sharif Laffrey, and our resident Facets in the main room, with all things italo/new wave/freestyle/80s-flavored in the bar area courtesy of Synthicide’s Andi and Pittsburgh producer Chase Smith. All tickets include a champagne toast at midnight; you’ll also enjoy outdoor space, killer visuals, and the usual stellar vibes. Grab limited $20 tickets before midnight on the 25th at Resident Advisor (they make great gifts, too).

Cutting straight to the chase, we’ve got some quick news bytes for you — jump down for all our dancefloor recommendations for this weekend.

  • Happy 1st birthday to one of our fave newer clubs, Tilt! Many happy returns to Bossa Nova Civic Club, too — you don’t look even half of your five years, yet it’s hard to remember you not existing.
  • The Mister Sunday guys are finally opening the indoor part of their Nowadays venue this weekend, celebrating with three straight days of parties. (The “full opening” will be Thursday, 12/14.)
  • The Cape House basement (a.k.a. “96 Morgan”) finally has a name of its own: Meet Rose Gold, the newly renovated “lush neon-noir disco den & cocktail lounge.”
  • Moogfest announced its 2018 lineup this week, “led by female, transgender, and non-binary innovators designing the future,” such as Rayna Russom, Honey Dijon, Ellen Allien, Aurora Halal and Umfang. The announcement was followed by a 50-hour livestream; the festival is set for May 17-20, 2018 in Durham, NC.
  • Non-profit initiative Creative Footprint is hosting several “music expert meetups” around the City in an effort to gather data about NYC venues and conduct a cultural impact study of our music scene. Get involved by attending an event here and/or support their valiant efforts via Kickstarter.
  • Last but certainly not least, it’s time you started taking your NYE seriously. Lots of announcements have been thrown out over the last week or two, but WE hope to ring in ’18 with y’all at our 5th annual fiesta, which will be held at the super rad (and newly reopened) Secret Project Robot this time. We couldn’t be more stoked about the lineup: Maestro/legend Joakim (Tigersushi), longtime fixture in the Detroit music scene Sharif Laffrey (Discos Capablanca) and our resident Facets (Samo Records) in the main room, with queen of all things industrial/goth/’80s Andi (SYNTHICIDE) and Pittsburgh native/super producer Chase Smith (WT/Apartment) playing new wave, italo, freestyle, and more in the bar room. Drinks will be easy on the wallet, there’s a garden, and stellar vibes are guaranteed! $20 tickets are now on sale at Resident Advisor, but hurry before 2nd release disappears!
