Our summer dancefloor options at the moment are pretty staggering, so, as usual, we’ll help you sort through this weekend’s best down below. In the meantime, we’ve got a couple of notes, in case you missed ’em this week…
- Just announced: Tune into boilerroom.tv next Wednesday (August 12) for a special Firehouse Recordings NYC session with an absolutely killer lineup of local heroes: Kim Ann Foxman, a/jus/ted (Justin Strauss and Teddy Stuart), DJ Spun, and Eli Escobar. The fire begins at 8pm!
- Beatport made headlines (and pissed off a LOT of artists and labels) this week when it sent out a letter to explain that it was unable to make royalty payments while its parent company, SFX, continued a “going private” process from a publicly listed company to a private one. The bad feelings were exacerbated by a big reveal that it was actually paying major labels but not indies… Today the label formally apologized to the indies and promised to send out payments next week, but the damage done to those relationships remains to be seen.
- Matthew Dear brings his new DELQA installation to New Museum this weekend. Described as “a dynamic and immersive environment that pushes the relationship between music and technology by creating an intimate space that surrounds visitors with unique sounds and visuals,” DELQA will be open to the public until August 9. RSVP to check it out.
- Save the date: We’ll be back on The Roof at Output on Thursday, August 20. Post-work feel-good vibes will be brought by [Ctrl] (Soul 2 Seoul/ Basement Floor), Tunnel Signs (Have a Killer Time/Clouded Vision), X Coast (International Waters), and our resident Facets. Official event page and flyer coming soon!
