Happy 2016! After a slight hiatus from posting our normal weekend highlights (we did keep the calendar up to date for your dancing needs, of course), we’re back and ready to embrace the new year. While things are understandably a bit mellow in the chilly, post-holiday period, rest assured that you can still find refuge on some spectacular NYC dancefloors this weekend. Before we get into all our recommendations, we’ve got a few ICYMI-type items to point your attention to:
  • First, we’d like to say a big (and slightly belated) thanks to everyone who came out to our third annual NYE party at The Graham, most of all to the spectacular talent we had on the decks: The Horrorist, Alex from Queens, Andi, and our resident Facets. Whether you attended and are eager to learn more about these expert music selectors or couldn’t make it but are curious about what you missed, we highly recommend you check out our Q&As with the DJs and have a listen to some of their sets online. (The good news is, they’re all local, so you’ve got plenty more opportunities to check them out in a venue near you this year.)
  • Feeling nostalgic? Take a look back at what happened on NYC dancefloors in 2015 — we also shortlist all the things we loved: venues (Good Room, Black Flamingo, Bossa, and more), DJs (Justin Strauss, Mike Servito, Lloydski, and Wrecked, to name a few), parties (Fixed, Tiki, The Bunker, etc.) and tons of other stuff. Although 2015 may have been an underwhelming year in a lot of ways, it was an excellent year for dance music — let’s never forget!
  • Painstakingly compiled, our year-end charts highlight all the best things we heard in ’15 (and offer easy links for no-hassle listening): See which records made our Top 50 tracks (among them songs by Heretic, Bicep, Tunnel Signs, John Talabot, and Lokier) and Top 10 albums (including Tronik Youth, Jacques Renault, Man Power, and Jori Hulkkonen) lists and hopefully discover some new favorites. We’ll be back shortly with our first Top 20 of 2016!
Below are our top picks for where to dance in NYC over the next three days (as always, the most essential events are marked by **); you can also check out our calendar for the full list of what’s going on. See you on the dancefloor…
