We already know what you’re thinking: We can’t wait for 2016 to end, too. While we don’t want to get too far off topic, the music community as a whole has been deeply affected by the events of the last couple of weeks. Although the general mood is somber, it’s inspiring to see so many people mobilizing and uniting to stand up for human rights. While the future remains uncertain, the global dance community will continue to work together to defend and celebrate diversity — both on and off the dancefloor. We encourage you to look for ways to get involved (such as supporting the fundraising efforts already in full force by many local DJs, promoters, and venues), and, on a human-level, to seek out those who need your support and understanding. Change is coming, and we can turn it into a positive.

On that note, take note of a few socially responsible (yet guaranteed to be serious fun) events this weekend: Rinsed’s House of Resistance tonight — featuring Dinamo Azari, Mike Simonetti, Andi, Dan Wender, and Blacky II — will be donating 100% of its proceeds to the ACLU, as will I Love Vinyl’s fundraiser at the303 tomorrow; Parties4Peace’s annual Thanksgiving dinner at TBA Brooklyn Sunday will be collecting donations at the door to support educational programs through art and music.

  • R.I.P. Leonard Cohen and David Mancuso. Mancuso’s passing has hit New York particularly hard, especially The Loft family of which he was patriarch. For more on his legacy and massive contribution to dance culture, check out some tributes from THUMP, The Guardian, SPIN, and FACT, as well as a Red Bull Music Acadmy interview with Mancuso published this past June. More than ever, we all need to keep the spirit of The Loft intact, and “Love Saves the Day” is probably the most perfect mantra for these precarious times…
  • Happy 12th to Fixed, one of our favorite parties in NYC! Promoter/residents JDH and Dave P will celebrate in typically spectacular fashion at Good Room tomorrow (Saturday) night by hosting an impressive bill that includes Daniel Avery, Katzele, and Love Injection’s Paul Raffaele and Barbie Bertisch. Come by, dance, and enjoy the celebratory vibe!
  • Over the Eight announced today that it will be closing its doors for the last time at the end of December.
  • Watch this space for NYE announcements… including one from us!
