It was about this time last year when a not-so-little hurricane named Sandy wreaked havoc on the Northeast and destroyed basically everything in her path — including Halloween. This may explain the astounding number of Halloween-themed events taking place in NYC over pretty much the next nine days or so (we’ve tried to update the full calendar early so you can plan ahead and prepare as many costumes as you need…). Not feeling festive this year? No worries — there are still enough parties happening where you can dance dressed as your everyday self. Before we get into our top picks for this weekend, a few things we’d like to point your attention to:
- Saturday marks the debut of a revolutionary new party that promises “not just another night”: With an inaugural lineup of Ivan Smagghe (Blackstrobe), Jokers of the Scene, and Lil Internet, a one-hour open bar, and a venue you’ve never been to before (a historic fire station at 87 Lafayette), YYYNYC clearly means business straight out of the gate. Even better, you can now get discounted advance tickets using this special link. We see big things to come from YYYNYC and highly recommend you are present for the birth of what very well may be your new favorite rager.
- The 6th Annual Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival (or BEMF, as it’s affectionately known) just announced its killer line-up for this year, which includes a typically diverse range of electronic talent from heavy-hitters like Todd Terje, John Digweed, Skream, Actress, The Magician, Tensnake, Kasper Bjorke, and XXXY and stages curated by the likes of The Bunker, Fixed, Nurvous Records, and THUMP. Early bird festival passes can be snapped up now, and single-day/-event tickets should be going on sale shortly. Brooklyn represent INDEED…
- We’re literally getting ready to head out to our most anticipated non-music event of the year, the Internet Cat Video Film Festival taking place tonight at Greenpoint’s Warsaw (with a matinee tomorrow afternoon). While tickets are unfortunately sold out, we’ll be sure to keep you informed of any future dates (and will say hi to Lil’ Bub for you).
